Norden Road is a local nursery in Maidneahead, the building has been fully refurbished to cater for the special requirements of young children. The opening times are from 7.45am to 6.15pm, 51 weeks of the year, Monday to Friday. We offer full and part time places to children from 6 weeks to 5 years old offering a structured and balanced daily routine.
The pre-school has the added benefit of an Independent Nursery Teacher, who teaches the Early Years Foundation Stage. We are Ofsted approved and provide a full range of curriculum activities with the following Early Learning guidelines.
Positive Steps Norden Road opened in June 2008 and is a purpose built nursery situated in a quiet private residential area within close proximity of Maidenhead town center, main train station and commuter links such as the M40 motorway and A404. The Nursery is managed by Anna Smith who opened the nursery back in 2008 and has been part of the Positive Steps team for almost 9 years.
Our home from home environment accommodates the individual needs of children aged between 6 weeks and 5 years and offers a total of four bright, airy age appropriate rooms and boasts a large bespoke outdoor play area, designed to capture the children’s wild imaginations and offer new and plentiful learning opportunities.
We are open 51 weeks of the year between the hours of 7.45 and 18.15 and offer the option of full days and half day sessions.
The committed team of inspirational and highly qualified nursery staff are extremely proud of the warm and welcoming atmosphere that we offer, and are pleased to announce that we were recognised by OFSTED in 2009, 2013 and 2014 as OUTSTANDING, who in our latest report quoted:
‘Children thrive in this warm and nurturing environment. They settle quickly, engage with staff confidently and show curiosity in all that is available to them.’
‘The confident and well motivated staff team create a happy fun filled learning environment for the young children.’
‘Development is monitored very effectively across all areas of learning. All staff encourage communication and language skills exceptionally well in everything the children do throughout the Nursery. Consequently children make excellent developmental progress.’

On a weekly basis we offer many extracurricular activities which include a French class with Le Club Francais and Music and Movement with Jo Jingles. In addition we run our own clubs within the nursery such as Cookery Club, Expressive Arts and Design Club and Book Club, which are also on a weekly basis. We thrive on our well established partnerships with our parents and families meaning that you are more than welcome to join us for any of the above sessions or at any other time convenient within busy schedules.
Annual events are held within the nursery for all the children and their families to enjoy, such as our Easter and Christmas parties and Summer Sports Days along with many other festivals and celebrations which are celebrated throughout the year.
Regular trips out into the local community adds to the children’s natural experiences and encourages learning on another level. With parents prior permission the children look forward to regular visits to the post office, community walks or the supermarket to buy ingredients for cooking.
The woodland experience is something the children all enjoy with our weekly trips to our woodland experience plot within Ockwells park are a more than enjoyable experience. Woodland experience is based more on the process of learning than it is on the content and more on the 'how' than the 'what'. This means that genuine Forest School practice steps boldly out of the shadow and limitation of 'planned activities' and ventures collaboratively into the realms of the unplanned, unexpected and ultimately unlimited. Our children are given encouragement to direct their own learning.
The building itself is well ventilated by the many windows and is also fully air conditioned. State of the art CCTV is installed within each of the rooms, front entrance and garden, together with a secure intercom system for entry into the Nursery.
We welcome you to visit our lovely nursery and wonderful garden at a time convenient for yourselves.
